April 28th Announcements
Great practice last night! I’m looking forward to a wonderful concert on Sunday performing in front of an audience filled with friends and family!
Remember there’s no practice on Tuesday May 5th.
Kristen’s term as Treasurer is coming to an end. If you are interested in volunteering as our Treasurer or want to know more about this position on our Executive, please send either of us an email or let us know at one of our rehearsals.
We have just heard that Don, one of our trumpeters is safe and sound in Nepal. Shawn heard back late last night that the Sherpa that Don is travelling with managed to get a message to a hotel in Pokhara yesterday that both he and Don were safe. Although he will miss our concert on Sunday, he may have an opportunity to experience a RCAF C-17 ride back to Canada.
Spring Concert. As we were going over the script for Sunday’s concert after practice we missed passing on an important detail. As the trombone section moves to the front of the stage to set up for Trombone Rag, the reason for the extra trombone set up to the side of the stage will be given and a tribute to Ragnar Dworschak will be offered. As part of this tribute we will be thanking Joy Statham, Ragnar’s estate Executrix, for the gift of his trombone. As this gift is to our band, we would like to ask all of our band to stand and join in the applause as a sign of our appreciation to Joy and Ragar’s family.
Please pass on to your friends and family that as we will have a full auditorium, it’s important to fill all the seats in starting from the center. In order to avoid expensive overtime charges for the Shenkman technicians that are working our concert, we will also be making every effort to start at 3:00 pm sharp. Please bring your music stands. We will be wearing white tops with black shoes, socks and pants. Timings:
12:30 – Equipment pick up at St Pete’s HS
1:00 – Shenkman opens for performers
2:00 – GCCB members warmed up and ready for sound checks on stage
3:00 – Downbeat and start of our Spring Concert!
4:30 – deafening sound as audience rises to their feet in spontaneous standing ovation!!
4:35 – ask all to help clear the stage
5:45 – we require volunteers to help unload equipment back at St Pete’s HS
6:00 – stage is empty, doors to Shenkman are being locked behind us.
